The English for healthcare professionals is a full time
course designed for the medical professionals who wish to improve their English
prior to taking the OET examination. Overseas students can get enrolled for 12
to 24 weeks. The 12 weeks course involves study in the morning and afternoon.
The 24 week programme has English study in the morning and a chance to look for
care giving work in the afternoon.
The main objective of the English language course is to
assist the students pass the OET exam. Students can get the option of sitting
for the IELTS examination. The course has been designed for overseas trained
nurses who wish to work in New Zealand or Australia and is suited for other
health professionals like dentists who want to enhance their English language
skills in a medical context.
There are some candidates who want to finish the competence
evaluation programme to exhibit their professional ability to being working in
New Zealand.
Students have to complete training as a health professional
in their own nation and have 360 hours of clinical experience. Students have to
obtain an IELTS score of 6.0 with no score less than 5.5.
OET is a language test for the healthcare practitioners who
are qualified to practice in one nation and want to have provisional
registration in another in an English speaking environment. The test gauges the
language competency of health practitioners who want registration and ability
to practice in an English speaking context.

The test is specific to the candidate’s field of
profession. This test is offered up to ten times in a year in New Zealand.
